    PERSON-CENTRED

This approach places each individual's unique journey at the core of the practice, trusting in their inherent capacity to reshape and transform, much like clay finding its form through gentle guidance.

  • Abstract irregular green shape on a white background.

    Non-clinical or pathologising

Moving deliberately away from clinical labelling, this counselling style views human distress through a compassionate lens, focusing on understanding root causes and personal contexts rather than applying diagnostic categories.

  • Solid light green abstract shape with rounded edges on a white background.

    SAFE, GENUINE & NON-JUDGEMENTAL

The therapeutic relationship creates a nurturing environment where clients can authentically explore their experiences without fear of judgement, recognising that healing requires patience, care, and unconditional acceptance.

FAQs

  • Counselling is a safe and confidential process where a qualified counsellor collaborates with a client to improve mental health, self-understanding, and address specific concerns. It can be preventative, focusing on personal growth or early symptom management, or reactive, addressing distress before it becomes more serious.

  • Counselling may be right for you if you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling with emotions, or facing challenges that are difficult to manage on your own. It can also help if you want to gain a deeper level of self-understanding, learn and implement coping strategies, or work through life transitions, relationships, or mental health issues.

  • In your first session with Bec (after your free 15-minute consultation), she will want to learn more about what brings you to counseling, your background, your relationships, and what matters most to you. The initial sessions focus on building a trusting therapeutic relationship.

  • Typically, Bec would recommend weekly or fortnightly sessions, particularly in the beginning. As you make progress, it is likely that sessions could be spaced further apart. The number of sessions you may need will vary depending on factors such as what brings you to counselling and your goals.

  • Counselling may feel foreign or even uncomfortable during the initial stages while you are getting a feel for Bec and her therapeutic style, and building trust can take time. The therapeutic relationship is the most significant contributor to your progress within counselling. Bec cares about you and your progress, and if you feel she is not the right fit for you, she may be able to provide recommendations of an alternative counsellor who could meet your needs. Finding the right counsellor is a very personal process, and Bec understands that she is unlikely to be the perfect fit for everyone. There’s no hard feelings!

  • Yes, counselling is confidential. Counsellors registered with The Australian Counselling Association are bound by ethical and legal standards to protect your privacy. The information you share with Bec is private and cannot be shared without your consent, except where there are legal obligations or safety concerns (risk of harm to yourself or others). Confidentially will be covered in more detail during the first session, and we will seek your “informed consent” after we have explained the process in more detail.
